Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), a nonprofit organization established in US in 1985 by sustainable transportation advocates, has become a leading organization in promoting environmentally sustainable and equitable transportation policies. ITDP shares its experience to the developing countries to counteract the same mistake made by the developed countries on transportation models that are costly and environmentally damaging, which is dependence on the private automobile. ITDP is currently active in Indonesia, India, China, South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Tanzania, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. ITDP International primarily focuses on high-quality, low-cost mass transit; planning and advocacy for non-motorized transportation (NMT); and strengthening the non-motorized transportation industries. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with ITDP, is giving technical assistance for local government of DKI Jakarta in order to increase the usage of TransJakarta buses, through “Bus Rapid Transit and Pedestrian Improvements in Jakarta” project. ITDP Indonesia has decided “Integrated transport system toward world class sustainable city” as its focus and program identity. ITDP Indonesia technical assistance program are divided into three components, which are: - Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a mass rapid transportation system that is based on bus. - Transport Demand Management (TDM), a system to control the automobile travel demand. - Non Motorized Transportation (NMT)
