17.8km Jalur Sepeda dan Jalur Pejalan Kaki di Kelapa Gading!
Monday, 28 November 2011

Increasing income doesnt guarantee better service
Saturday, 22 October 2011

Deemed a breakthrough approach to public transportation in Jakarta, the Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit system has changed Jakartans’ travel behavior in the city.

The steady increase in passengers has come in line with the increasing number of corridors. This has significantly boosted revenue. Unfortunately, increased revenue has not been followed by improvements in service.

In one day the new transportation system, popularly known as the busway, is capable of generating at least Rp 1 billion (US$114,000) from a total of around 250,000 passengers. In the first semester of this year, ticket sales generated total revenue of Rp 183 billion.

The Bitter Truth: No Respect for Pedestrians
Thursday, 29 September 2011

It was late at night and I wasn’t in any hurry. Coming out of an alleyway, I saw a man walking slowly down the sidewalk. As he looked like he was about to cross the street, I stopped my car to let him pass. I waited there for a moment, but to my surprise nothing happened. I looked at the 20-something guy, he looked back at me, with a puzzled expression on his face. I signaled for him to cross, but he just stood still. I decided to wait for another second. This time he gestured for me to pass first. I had no choice, so I moved along.

Here is a bitter truth about Jakarta: We’ve treated pedestrians so badly for so many years that they don’t even realize they have the right to receive better treatment, especially from drivers.
